The charming simulator ‘Pokémon Pokopia’, which was released this spring and quickly gained popularity – becoming one of the top reasons to buy a Switch 2 – will soon receive its first paid DLC. The ‘Bubbly Basin’ expansion will be available on August 5.

The expansion will open up a new underwater location to explore, one that bears a striking resemblance to the ruins of Cerulean City. Players will be able to access it using the new Dive move, which unlocks the ability to explore the underwater world. This move will be available to all players as part of a free update, so anyone interested will be able to explore the seabed even in locations that are already accessible.
As in other regions of the game, the main goal is to attract various Pokémon by creating their preferred habitats. Building the perfect city for aquatic Pokémon has one key advantage over building on land. The game will feature new floating blocks that stay afloat, allowing you to create “three-dimensional builds that are only possible underwater.” It seems like the perfect time to give Krabby the floating underwater bar he’s always dreamed of.

The expansion will also offer plenty of new decorative items, including furniture that’s “perfectly suited for life on the seafloor.” Plus, it’s a whole new area packed with secrets. The developers are hinting at “a deep, dark hole” just waiting to be explored. Furthermore, a new crop – watermelon – will be added to the game, along with a new Dream Island featuring corresponding resources.

However, there’s also some bad news. Bubbly Basin is part of the $35 Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, and this DLC cannot be purchased separately. At the same time, Expansion Pass owners will gain access to three major expansions set to be released in the future. Buyers will also receive bonus recipes and 30 rare Pokémetal ingots. As a result, the total cost of the game plus the DLC comes to about $105, which is quite a significant amount given the current economic conditions.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Pokémon Pokopia offers an unusual blend of elements from Pokémon, Minecraft, Stardew Valley, and Dragon Quest Builders. Players control the character Ditto, and the main focus is on restoring the world and bringing back Pokémon that have been in hibernation for a long time.
