The legendary strategy franchise is officially returning to its roots: KING Art Games, in collaboration with Deep Silver and Games Workshop, is preparing to release Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4. The game is set to launch on PC via Steam on December 3, 2026, following a slight delay from September 17 to allow for final polishing, while Commander Edition owners will gain access as early as November 30.

There are currently no plans for console versions, as the developers are focused on creating an uncompromising, hardcore RTS experience with classic base-building and a squad system.

The storyline unfolds 200 years after the events of the cult classic expansion Dark Crusade on the ravaged planet Kronus. The script was co-written by Black Library author John French. Players will once again encounter veteran Cyrus and Librarian Jon Orion of the Order of the Blood Ravens, as well as the legendary Primarch Lev El’Johnson, when the Dark Angels arrive to lend a hand.

Four unique factions are available at launch: the Space Marines, represented by two distinct orders; the ruthless Orks; the immortal Necrons; and the Adeptus Mechanicus, which makes its debut in the series as a full-fledged playable faction.

The game will feature a massive campaign with over 70 missions and co-op support, battles against AI in “Skirmish” mode, a turn-based “Crusade” mode, a proprietary army-painting tool, as well as competitive multiplayer in 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 formats, along with an updated “Last Stand” survival mode. In addition, publisher Deep Silver has already unveiled a one-year post-launch roadmap for the game, featuring free updates and paid story expansions.
