Xiaomi Auto Vice President Huang Zhenyu and vice-CEO Li Xiaoshuang, in the presence of executives from CALB and Sunwoda Power, unveiled the new Dragonscale battery pack in China. Or Longjia, if we’re talking about the version for the domestic market. At the same time, the company made a grand gesture that demonstrates its confidence in the new technology.
The new battery represents a strategic effort to reduce dependence on the giants of the battery market, and Xiaomi wants potential buyers to know: the company is ready to take responsibility for every component. If a spontaneous combustion occurs, the tech giant promises to replace the car with an identical model in the same trim level. Even if the car sustains a severe side impact or suffers serious underbody damage from road debris that causes a fire, Xiaomi promises to cover the difference between the insurance payout and the car’s market value immediately prior to the damage.

However, there are a few conditions. The warranty applies only to individuals who are the first owners of the vehicle and do not use it for commercial purposes. If you work night shifts for a ride-hailing service, manage a fleet of rental cars, or purchased the vehicle on the used car market, you will not be eligible for this warranty. In addition, you must have an active subscription to connected Xiaomi services and have the SUV serviced exclusively at official service centers.

Xiaomi claims that Dragonscale exceeds the new Chinese safety standards GB 38031-2025 in terms of both charge cycle life and the battery pack’s ability to suppress ignition. The pack is equipped with high-voltage isolators that operate within milliseconds and physically break high-current power connections the moment they are triggered; the isolators themselves are protected by layers of insulation. During extreme-condition testing, Xiaomi engineers claim that even in the event of catastrophic thermal runaway in a single cell, the flame is contained and does not spread.

Chemical reactions are monitored by Xiaomi’s proprietary Cloud BMS (battery management system), which checks cell parameters 10 times more frequently than required by the Chinese national standard and processes three times the volume of data to detect temperature anomalies early on.
The Dragonscale battery will debut on September 7 as the heart of the Skynomad model lineup. This is not a pure electric vehicle, but an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) built on the new Kunlun platform. It features two electric motors with a combined output of 416 k.s., as well as a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that functions as an on-board generator. The flagship seven-seater Skynomad N90 measures 5,285 × 1,998 × 1,825 mm with a wheelbase of 3,080 mm, and it also beats many competitors on price.

The shift toward large vehicles with extended range and robust fire safety guarantees is entirely logical. According to China EV DataTracker, Xiaomi delivered 31,267 vehicles in July 2026, whereas in December 2025 it sold 50,212 vehicles. Over the course of seven months, its sales volume nearly halved, so the tech giant is pursuing one of the best survival strategies by shifting its focus to family-oriented EREVs with large batteries rated at 52 and 76 kWh. Buyers want screens, comfortable seats, and a quiet electric powertrain for daily commutes, but they don’t want to wait in long lines at charging stations.
It’s worth noting that neither the SU7 sports sedan nor the YU7 crossover has been confirmed for the transition to Dragonscale, so both flagship models remain tied to batteries from CATL and FinDreams without the option to replace the vehicle in the event of a fire.
It will take some time to see if the Dragonscale battery proves to be as invulnerable as Xiaomi’s lab tests promise. But in an industry where potential battery issues deter many car enthusiasts, the offer of a replacement vehicle appears to be a solid guarantee.
