While this feature was made available thanks to the Samsung One UI 6.1 software, it will be exclusive to the new flagship devices. Possibly, future Samsung flagship devices will also bring this new AOD (Always On Display) feature to users.
For a few years now, AOD has been available on most Samsung flagship-level devices. However, these AOD features are no match for the new ones that are available to users of the Galaxy S24 series devices. Not only do these devices show off the time and date, but they accompany these with a glimpse of the users’ wallpaper, which is quite impressive to look at.
Apple debuted a similar feature on the launch of their iPhone 14 series devices. But Samsung is adding some flare to it as it doesn’t just dim the wallpaper background but creates a unique cutout through which users can view a bit of their wallpaper. While this new AOD feature consumes more battery, it’s a cool way to view your notifications while your device is idle.
Users can pick from a range of shape cutouts from which they can view a part of their wallpaper (the main focus image, if any). The rest of the screen stays dark, as only the part of the wallpaper in view is bright. However, some Samsung fans express their concerns over the power consumption of this new AOD feature.
Well, the new power-efficient displays on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will help keep the power consumption of this feature down. This is the main reason why the new Samsung Galaxy S24 AOD feature isn’t coming to older devices, as they don’t have power-efficient displays. Future Samsung flagship devices will launch with this AOD feature, as they will feature the power-efficient displays on the S24 series.
