It’s been a while since Samsung last unveiled a new Bluetooth tracker, as the Galaxy SmartTag2 was released back in 2023. This summer, insiders reported that the tech giant was already preparing the next generation of devices, and now images have appeared online that offer a glimpse of the upcoming Galaxy SmartTag3 and the changes to its design.

Journalists at WinFuture found images that appear to be official renders of the Galaxy SmartTag3 in white and black. At first glance, the device differs significantly from its predecessor, especially in terms of design. The lanyard hole has been completely removed, and Samsung has opted for a “squircle” shape – a hybrid between a circle and a square.

Insiders had already mentioned this design change, so it didn’t come as a big surprise, although it was interesting to see how the company would implement this idea. However, Samsung seems to have taken another important detail into account regarding the updated design. The absence of a lanyard hole meant that buyers would have to purchase additional accessories to attach the tracker to objects. However, WinFuture notes that Samsung may include a case with a round carabiner at the top in the SmartTag3 package. In this way, the company may be trying to compensate for the absence of a lanyard hole.

Although it’s hard to tell from these images, the front of the tracker may also feature a button to perform some action, as was the case with the previous-generation model.

Samsung will also offer additional accessories for the SmartTag3, including a protective bumper, as well as silicone and leather cases, although images of these accessories are not currently available. However, some images show the Spigen ComfortTag pet collar clip, designed for the Galaxy SmartTag3, so you always know where your pets are.

The technical specifications of the Galaxy SmartTag3 have not yet been revealed, but a recent FCC filing confirms the use of UWB (ultra-wideband), which will enable precise tracking of items near you. There were earlier rumors that the manufacturer would equip the tracker with Bluetooth 6.0, but there’s no mention of that at this time. According to WinFuture, the Galaxy SmartTag3 may cost $29.99 per device, while a four-pack of trackers is reportedly a better deal at $99.99.
