According to the latest Omdia study, in the second quarter of 2026, the global market for desktop computers, laptops, and workstations contracted by nearly 4% year-over-year, to 65.7 million units. Shipments of desktop PCs, including desktop workstations, totaled 13.9 million units, down 1.3% from a year earlier. At the same time, shipments of laptops, including mobile workstations, reached 51.7 million units, representing a 4.2% decline.

“The sharp rise in prices for memory and storage media in the first quarter of this year significantly impacted product pricing in the second quarter,” said Ben Yeh, chief analyst at Omdia. “This also prompted consumers and IT decision-makers to accelerate PC purchases to mitigate the risk of further price increases. Although sales volumes remained stable, the risk of a further decline still exists.”

Apple’s recent decision to raise prices across its entire MacBook lineup has become one of the main topics of discussion in the market. At the same time, other PC manufacturers began revising their prices as early as the end of Q4 2025 and continued to adjust them in each subsequent quarter. In comparable product lines, prices have risen by approximately 20–40% compared to the same period last year.

“Following the surge in activity seen in the first half of the year, there are now signs of a period of pent-up demand as the true impact of supply shortages becomes increasingly apparent,” said Ishan Dutt, research director at Omdia. “More than half of the B2B partners surveyed in Omdia’s June study reported that their customers are postponing equipment upgrade plans until the market stabilizes, while another 6% indicated the likelihood of orders being canceled entirely.”

He added that in the coming months, as the market approaches the one-year mark before Windows 10 support ends in October 2025, a significant portion of corporate hardware fleets will still need to be upgraded.

Although the rate of increase in the cost of memory and storage is expected to slow in the second half of 2026, PC prices will continue to reflect the component cost inflation that took hold in the second quarter of 2026. Omdia’s research indicates that neither memory nor storage will become cheaper by the end of this year. Furthermore, other components are also becoming more expensive, including multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) and printed circuit boards (PCBs). As a result, PC manufacturers are expected to continue passing on a significant portion of the cost increases to consumers, which, in turn, will negatively impact demand in the second half of the year.

Lenovo maintained its leadership in the global market, shipping 16.6 million devices and retaining a 25% market share, although it saw a modest 2% decline in shipments. HP took second place with 13.0 million units shipped, while its shipments declined by 9% year-over-year. Dell remained in third place – the company demonstrated resilience amid limited component supplies, shipped 9.3 million devices, and captured a 14% market share.

Apple posted the highest growth rate among leading manufacturers. The tech giant shipped 7.3 million devices thanks to the launch of the MacBook Neo and steady demand. The company increased its market share by 2 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2025.

ASUS rounded out the top five with 5.0 million units shipped, showing generally stable performance compared to last year.
