Insta360’s flagship 360° camera, the X5, was unveiled last year and boasted support for 8K video recording and interchangeable lenses. The brand appears to be planning to stick to the launch schedule of previous years, as, according to insiders, it is already working on its successor – the X6 model. And a new leak reveals its design and some specifications in detail.

According to the German publication WinFuture, the Insta360 X6 is already being prepared for launch, and retailers have begun receiving the first shipments of the cameras. The publication has released what appear to be promotional images that offer a full view of the upcoming device from all angles.

Unlike previous generations with a tall body, the X6 appears to feature a lower and more compact form factor. Judging by the leak, Insta360 may remove the two buttons below the display, which would make the body look slightly bulkier. At the same time, it is still unknown how the reduction in size will affect the battery capacity.

In addition to a shorter body, the X6 also appears to feature a slightly updated design on the front and back panels. The buttons on the side edges look more pronounced, which will be especially useful for those who operate the camera while wearing gloves or other protective hand gear. The two ultra-wide-angle fisheye lenses still appear to be interchangeable, but almost nothing is known about their specifications at this time.

However, one of the key features highlighted in the leaked marketing materials is a new mode for recording 360° video in 8K resolution at 50 frames per second. This would be an improvement over the Insta360 X5’s ability to record 8K video at 30 frames per second. At the same time, reports of an 8K mode at 60 frames per second have surfaced in recent months, but none of the current information confirms this. Additionally, rumors suggest the camera will feature a new 1-inch CMOS sensor.

It is reported that the upcoming 360° camera received certification from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) just last week, which further strengthens the likelihood of its imminent launch on the U.S. market. No official details are available yet.
