Microsoft has announced the start of the rollout of Windows 11 version 26H2 in the Release Preview channel for Windows Insider program participants, indicating that a full release of the system for the general public is imminent. The transition of this version to the final testing stage indicates that development is nearly complete, and specialists are moving on to testing the final build.
In terms of scope, Windows 11 version 26H2 is similar to version 25H2. It is built on the same platform as versions 25H2 and 24H2, so it is not a major operating system update and does not introduce radical changes to its core. The main goal of 26H2 is to reset the official support period for users. With the release of this version, regular consumers will receive 24 months of support, while corporate customers will receive 36 months.
This is great news for those who typically ignore the latest Windows 11 releases out of fear of encountering instability or bugs. Since 26H2 shares the same core system, feature set, and security updates as 25H2, there will be no compatibility or software quality issues. Any software that works successfully on 25H2 will also work on 26H2.
Since Windows 11 version 26H2 uses the same servicing branch as Windows 11 version 25H2, this update is distributed via a special activation package (eKB). Thanks to this, your device will upgrade to the next version after just one reboot, ensuring a familiar, fast, and reliable update process.
In some cases, 26H2 may receive new features earlier; however, as long as versions 25H2 and 24H2 remain current, they will receive the same functionality.
