In recent years, Huawei has released a number of foldable smartphones with a classic design (and even with two hinges), which has helped it gain a foothold in this segment alongside Samsung. The new device, called Huawei Pura X Max, will be another step towards strengthening the brand’s position in this category. The official presentation of the device is scheduled for April 20, but the company decided to demonstrate the design of the new product and some details even before the announcement.

Huawei’s official Weibo page has posted images of the Pura X Max, revealing its appearance and color options. Unlike most folding smartphones in an “elongated” shape, the new product has a wider body that resembles a passport-like format. This approach looks unusual and offers a different vision for the development of this class of devices.

The wide folding display makes the device look like a compact tablet. The large camera module on the back immediately attracts attention. Official specifications have not yet been disclosed, but according to previous leaks, the main screen is expected to have a diagonal of 7.5″, and the outer screen – 5.3″. The latter may be a weak point for some users, as most modern folding models are equipped with external displays of 6″ or more. It is also known that the smartphone will be available in four colors.

According to unofficial information, the new product will be powered by a Kirin 9030 processor combined with 12 or 16 GB of RAM. The device is already available for pre-order in China, and the full announcement is scheduled for April 20.

Huawei Pura X Max actually opens a new format in the foldable smartphone segment and may become a competitor to future models, including Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold and Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra. So far, most of Samsung ‘s devices have followed a traditional design, but the company is also working on a wider form factor. Similarly, the rumors about the foldable iPhone indicate a possible transition to a wider display.

The Galaxy Wide Fold is expected to be unveiled on July 22, while the iPhone Ultra may be shown alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max during Apple’s September presentation.
There is no information on the global availability of Huawei‘s new foldable smartphone yet. But in any case, the company’s products are still banned in the US market, so users in this country will have to look for workarounds to buy the device, as well as take into account possible difficulties with Google services.
