Today, as a result of a Russian attack, the Vivat warehouse at Nova Poshta in Kyiv’s Sviatopetrivskyi district burned down. Representatives of the publishing house reported this on their Facebook page. The post notes that all the books in the warehouse were destroyed in the fire.
“We lost this lottery – wherever the missile would strike tonight. As a result, the warehouse in Kyiv, where Vivat’s books were stored, burned down today. Of course, we had been working on relocating our stock and ensuring our books weren’t all kept in one place, so we still managed to transport some of the books to Lviv and restock our bookstores,” wrote Yulia Orlova, CEO and co-owner of Vivat Publishing, in her post. “But there were many new releases and books by Ukrainian authors in Kyiv, as we were preparing for the book festival. Now our participation is also in question.”

She added that the publishing house is still assessing the losses, as the fire destroyed Vivat books not only at their own warehouse but also at their partners’ warehouses. The social media accounts of Readeat and Bookua also reported on the destroyed books.
“A fire broke out at a Nova Poshta fulfillment warehouse in the Kyiv region as a result of a Russian drone attack. Our online store’s entire stock of print books was stored at this warehouse,” reads a post on Bookua’s Instagram page. “According to preliminary information, a significant portion of the inventory has been damaged or destroyed. Fortunately, the warehouse employees were not injured. And that’s what matters most.” Currently, only e-books are available for purchase on the bookstore’s website.
“Today, a Russian attack destroyed the warehouse in Sviatopetrivskyi – the place from which thousands of books were sent to you every day across Ukraine. It was from here that your book dreams set off on their journey to you. Every box represented someone’s anticipation, a gift, or a long-awaited book. And it pains us deeply to realize that this place no longer exists,” Readeat representatives stated on their Instagram page. “Unfortunately, we are currently unable to process shipments from our online store. We need time to assess the consequences of the attack and figure out how to resume operations.”
The publishers “Laboratory,” “Zhorzh,” “Osnovy,” BIMBA, and “A-BA-BA-GA-LA-MA-GA” have already reported the loss of books from their partners’ warehouses. “Last night, the warehouse from which our publications were directly shipped was destroyed, so ‘A-BA-BA-GA-LA-MA-GA’ will experience delays in shipping orders in the near future,” said Ivan Malkovych, the publishing house’s director, on Instagram. “Many of our luxury books, worth a significant amount, were destroyed in the fire.”
