China’s Unitree Robotics has unveiled an innovative human-controlled robot called GD01. This large-scale transforming machine is capable of functioning as a full-fledged vehicle, and the developers have already announced its preparation for mass production. Structurally, GD01 is a giant version of a humanoid robot, more than twice as tall as a human. In the central part of the body, there is a protected cockpit-cage for the pilot; during the presentation, the head of the company, Wang Xingxing, took a seat inside.

The robot’s locomotion system has two main formats: it can walk on two legs or use all four limbs to move. The device has the ability to transform the configuration of its body, changing its position from vertical to horizontal depending on specific tasks and travel conditions. Unitree proposes to consider GD01 as a civilian vehicle. The total weight of the device with the pilot is about 500 kg, and the market price is set at 3.9 million yuan, which is approximately $574,000.

In the presentation video, the machine demonstrated significant mechanical power, including the ability to destroy lightweight structures. During the tests, the robot smashed a wall made of building blocks with a single blow of its manipulator.
