New rumors are adding to the heat surrounding the alleged “Wide” Galaxy Fold, with one report claiming that the device is well underway with new software. The information comes from SamMobile, which reports that it has discovered the start of One UI 9 testing on Wide Fold. It’s important to note that these leaks directly indicate that the Wide Fold will be released with Samsung’s Android 17 operating system. The publication further reports that it found a foldable device in the process of testing with firmware version vF971USQU0AZB1.

The rumor also adds that this firmware is similar to the one previously spotted for Samsung’s next expected pair of foldable devices, the Fold 8 and Flip 8. It was insider Tarun Vats who first revealed this information on the X platform, suggesting that the detected firmware is an early test build of Samsung’s Android 17 (One UI 9). Vats notes that “things are moving very fast,” and this may be related to Google’s latest announcement.
Indeed, things are moving fast, as Google just announced yesterday that the beta version of Android 17 will be available “very soon.” The company has released the final QPR3 build for Android 16, which effectively means the end of this stage. Google is now turning its attention to the next generation of Android and informing Android 16 users that they will be automatically enrolled in the OS 17 testing program.

The official start date for Android 17 testing has not yet been announced.
Regarding the “Wide” Fold – or whatever it will eventually be called – the latest rumors claim that the device’s model number has already been spotted. The number itself is not new, but the latest information is that it contains clues about the regions where Samsung plans to introduce the new product. According to the data, the Wide Fold may debut in China and Korea, as well as in the United States, Canada, and global markets.
