Today I’m reviewing a brand-new product from the Ukrainian security systems manufacturer Ajax Systems – the DoorBell video doorbell. As you might expect, this isn’t just a basic door chime. It combines the standard functionality of a doorbell with elements of video surveillance, including built-in AI features.

If you already use other devices from the Ajax ecosystem, this model integrates smoothly and adds value to the setup. But even if you’re only starting to consider home security solutions, this device is still worth a closer look. In this review, I’ll go over what the DoorBell offers and explain why it ended up being a relevant addition to my own system.

Positioning and price

At the time of this review, the Ajax DoorBell is available for around $239 or €211. That’s certainly on the higher end for a video doorbell, especially when compared to more affordable options from Chinese brands. However, lower-cost models typically come with compromises – whether in build quality, reliability, or long-term performance. It’s also worth noting that part of the price reflects its seamless integration with the broader Ajax ecosystem. For users already invested in Ajax devices, the DoorBell serves as a natural extension, adding another layer to the overall home security setup.

Ajax DoorBell

What you’re getting here isn’t just a doorbell with a few extra features – it’s a device that sees, hears, recognizes objects, and can even alert you before someone presses the button. In that context, the price seems justified. This isn’t a basic add-on; it’s a functional part of a larger security system, and it performs accordingly.

Ajax DoorBell package contents

The Ajax DoorBell arrived in a clean, minimalist white box. Inside, everything needed for a quick installation is included, keeping the unboxing process straightforward and practical.

By the way, the installation is really as simple as possible. You will be able to do everything yourself without any help. So, let’s get back to the equipment:

  • the DoorBell doorbell itself
  • SmartBracket mounting panel
  • two wedge-shaped mounts for installing the device at an angle
  • relay for ringing the bell
  • BellKit (for connecting to a wired bell)
  • all necessary mounting hardware.

In general, everything is as usual: the equipment is thought out to the smallest detail, nothing superfluous.

Design

The doorbell is compact in size and has a modern, slightly futuristic design with smooth, rounded edges. It’s visually neutral enough to fit well with most exterior styles. Ajax also offers the DoorBell in four different color options, giving users some flexibility when it comes to matching their setup:

  • White
  • Grey
  • Graphite
  • Black

At the top of the device, you’ll find the camera and infrared sensor, both clearly visible and distinct in appearance. Below them is the doorbell button, which deserves a closer look on its own.

Even if your visitors have never encountered a device like this before, using it won’t be a problem. The DoorBell is designed to be intuitive, and the device itself provides clear visual cues to guide interaction.

As soon as someone approaches the door, the button lights up, making it clear where to press. After the button is pressed, an LED ring animates around it, indicating that the call has been registered. It’s a thoughtful touch that adds clarity to the user experience.

Picture and sound

These are important factors, and to give you a quick summary – the DoorBell performs well in both day and night conditions. During the day, the image is sharp, clear, and detailed, allowing you to see everything you need. At night, the infrared illumination takes over, providing good facial recognition and sufficient detail for monitoring without issues.

Ajax DoorBell

How about the sound quality? It’s solid here as well. You can clearly hear what’s happening outside your door, and visitors will hear you without any trouble. The speakers are loud enough to ensure clear communication, and noise cancellation plus echo compensation help maintain clarity. Ajax has clearly put effort into delivering a well-balanced audio experience.

Main features of Ajax DoorBell

There are a few things I’d like to share, because we’re dealing with a really smart device. What I liked:

  1. The DoorBell includes AI-based object recognition, a feature increasingly common in modern devices that significantly expands functionality. In this case, the AI can reliably distinguish between people, animals, and vehicles near your door. This helps reduce false alarms – a common issue for users of similar devices that constantly send unnecessary alerts. Additionally, you have the option to customize the motion detection zones to suit your needs.
  2. Security is a key focus here. Your data is protected from unauthorized access, and the device includes tamper detection. If someone attempts to disconnect or steal the doorbell, you’ll receive an immediate alert.
  3. The DoorBell is designed to keep working during power outages. Thanks to its built-in backup battery, it can operate reliably for up to two hours without external power.

Synchronisation with the Ajax video surveillance system

A few words about setup. Once the doorbell is installed, you just need to open the Ajax app and add the new device. The process is straightforward – just a few taps, and the doorbell is ready to use.

To get started, simply scan the QR code on the box and link the DoorBell to the appropriate group within your system by following the on-screen instructions. That’s it – the device will be ready to use.

Conclusions

Ajax DoorBell

In conclusion, the Ajax DoorBell is a device worth considering, particularly when security is a priority. If you’re already using other Ajax products, it’s a natural addition. For those just exploring smart security options, the DoorBell offers a solid starting point.
