In the headphone market, the division is usually clear: some models are made for music, others for gaming. Each category serves its purpose, and it’s uncommon to find a single pair that handles both scenarios well. That’s why a device aiming to bridge these two roles without major compromises stands out. The SIMGOT EG280 fits into this niche – a relatively affordable pair of IEMs positioned for both music listening and gaming use.

Price and positioning
The SIMGOT EG280 is priced at $91.99 on AliExpress and is marketed primarily as a gaming-focused model. Overall, it sits in the budget range for in-ear monitors (IEMs), especially considering that the set includes a USB-C DAC and uses a detachable cable. This allows for straightforward upgrades: you can swap the stock cable for a higher-quality one or attach a Bluetooth module to use the earphones wirelessly. Naturally, such accessories are not included, so any modifications of this kind will require an additional investment.
Package contents
The earphones arrive in a mid-sized, black retail box with a restrained design. Inside, the earpieces are seated in a foam holder without ear tips installed, accompanied by several smaller boxes containing the included accessories.
The SIMGOT EG280 package includes a fairly large, firm eco-leather carrying case, two sets of silicone ear tips (three sizes each, in black and white), a 1.7-meter cable with 2-pin 0.78 mm connectors and a 3.5 mm jack with an integrated microphone, and a compact 3.5 mm–to–USB-C adapter featuring a built-in DAC.

Aside from the USB-C adapter, the accessory set is fairly standard for this price category. However, the external USB-C DAC is the key component that shifts the EG280 from a purely music-oriented model toward a more gaming-capable headset.

Design, Materials, Ergonomics
The housings are made of semi-transparent dark grey plastic, allowing a partial view of the internal components, including the two drivers mentioned earlier. The outer side of each earpiece is covered with a metal faceplate featuring the brand’s logo.
The cable is fairly standard and clearly positioned as an inexpensive component. It consists of four thin insulated wires twisted into a single strand, without any additional sleeving or reinforcement. Even so, it appears adequately built. Given the gaming-oriented use case, its length – almost 1.7 meters – is practical.

The right-side cable includes a small metal module that houses the microphone and a single control button. The 3.5 mm plug also uses a metal shell and is angled at 90 degrees relative to the cable.
The earpieces have an ergonomic shape and provide a comfortable, secure fit. They sit firmly in the ear and remain stable even during more active head movements. The cable routes over the ear, which is a typical arrangement for IEMs of this type.

The microphone on the cable sits slightly below the face, so in most situations it does not rub against clothing or the chin.

Overall, the SIMGOT EG280 is comfortable to wear and has a stylish appearance. The main drawback of the basic package is the wired connection – a compromise often accepted in exchange for higher sound quality.

Sound of the SIMGOT EG280
The sound of the SIMGOT EG280 is very natural – clean and spacious. The dual-driver setup reproduces the full frequency range without noise or metallic, artificial tones. Music plays without noticeable distortion, with both high and low frequencies rendered clearly and fully.

Gaming performance is also strong – the sound is rich and immersive. While testing the earphones on a PC, I used Hunt: Showdown 1896, where sound direction is a critical gameplay element. The SIMGOT EG280 performed nearly perfectly, accurately conveying directional cues both horizontally and vertically, and even the quietest in-game sounds were clearly audible.

Microphone
The included cable features a Goertek silicone microphone. It delivers a fairly clear voice signal, with minimal unwanted noise, no significant muffling or frequency boosting, and effectively filters background sounds to focus on the speaker’s voice.

Software: SIMGOT Control App
Like most SIMGOT products, the EG280 supports customization through the proprietary SIMGOT Control app on Android. Unfortunately, the app is not available on iOS, which limits the ability to fully utilize the EG280’s features for Apple users.
Within the SIMGOT Control app, users can select different profiles tailored to specific games or game genres, fine-tune the equalizer, and adjust microphone sensitivity. It’s worth noting that these features are only available when connected via the USB-C adapter, as the built-in sound card in the adapter stores all settings and manages audio output.
Many online retailers claim that the SIMGOT EG280 can be configured on Windows or macOS via a web app embedded in the USB-C adapter. However, none provide a working URL for accessing this interface, and the links I found online did not allow me to connect. As a result, I could not verify this functionality. That said, any settings applied through the mobile app are stored in the adapter and remain active when the earphones are connected to a laptop or PC.

It’s worth noting that the EG280 USB-DAC is a useful accessory, especially in an era when most smartphones lack analog audio jacks. The adapter is fully universal and can be used with any headphones that have a 3.5 mm plug. It allows you to configure a custom equalizer or select a pre-set gaming profile. As for microphone settings, I was unable to verify their functionality.

Conclusions
The SIMGOT EG280 are well-built earphones with a lively, natural sound. They serve as a solid starting point both for audiophiles interested in gaming and for gamers who want high-quality audio for both games and music listening.

The SIMGOT Control software allows for more precise tuning of both the earphones and the microphone. Additionally, the detachable cable opens up the possibility of creating a customized setup with improved sound or specific features tailored to particular use cases. For example, the earphones can be upgraded with a Bluetooth module to become fully wireless.
