The annual gaming ceremony The Game Awards has officially received a date. The event will take place on December 10, 2026, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, USA. It was announced by the author and host of the show Geoff Keighley in a post on the X platform.
The Game Awards, launched by Keighley in 2014, has long been the world’s premier stage for the gaming industry. Not only is the Game of the Year awarded, but also the most anticipated releases from AAA studios and independent developers are presented.

The 2026 ceremony promises to be particularly intense. Such high-profile projects as Resident Evil Requiem, Marvel’s Wolverine, Control Resonant, Forza Horizon 3, and 007 First Light are expected to participate. However, the main intrigue remains around Grand Theft Auto VI.

It is not yet known whether GTA 6 will make it to The Game Awards 2026. Traditionally, the deadline for participation is the third week of November. For example, for the 2025 ceremony, the deadline was November 21 at 21:00 Pacific Time.
If we keep this logic, the deadline for participation in The Game Awards 2026 could be Friday, November 20. This means that GTA 6 could potentially “catch the last train” and be included in the list of nominees if the release goes ahead as scheduled. If Rockstar Games postpones the launch again, the game will probably participate in The Game Awards 2027.

For comparison, The Game Awards 2025 took place on December 11 and was broadcast worldwide via YouTube and Twitch. The absolute winner of the evening was the RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 by Sandfall Interactive, which received a record 9 awards, including the main honor “Game of the Year”.

New big projects were also announced during the event: Divinity by Larian Studios, Control Resonant by Remedy Entertainment, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic from Casey Hudson’s new studio and two new Tomb Raider games from Crystal Dynamics.
