The popular Rocket League game is preparing to switch to a different technology base, and large-scale changes will affect not only virtual transportation. As part of the Rocket League Paris Major esports tournament, Epic Games presented a small teaser of the reimagined Rocket League modification. The key value of this video is that the gameplay was demonstrated on the basis of the brand new Unreal Engine 6.

It was quite unexpected that Epic Games refused to use its biggest hit Fortnite for the first public presentation of the next-generation game engine. However, this announcement marked a historic moment when the developers demonstrated real gameplay footage created with the help of Unreal Engine 6 tools for the first time. It is worth emphasizing that all the gameplay shown in the video was recorded directly during the program’s operation in real time, as evidenced by the corresponding mark in the teaser. Representatives of Epic Games refrained from providing a detailed list of technical improvements that Rocket League will receive thanks to Unreal Engine 6, but viewers can already notice visual enhancements. In particular, the detail of cars has significantly increased, and the reflections on their surfaces have become much better.
As of today, not much information about the architecture and capabilities of Unreal Engine 6 has been made public. However, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has previously stated that internal teams are actively working on the process of migration to the latest generation of proprietary software. If we consider Rocket League, the introduction of Unreal Engine 6 will be a huge technological advancement for this project, as the current version of the game still runs on the outdated third iteration of the Epic Games engine. At the same time, the authors have not yet announced the exact schedule for the release of Unreal Engine 6, although more than four years have passed since the release of the previous version, Unreal Engine 5.
