GSC Game World has announced that Update 2.0 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be released on August 20. Players can look forward to an updated engine, improved graphics, three types of binoculars, and many other new features. All of these changes will be available to game owners for free.

“Ever since the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, the Zone has evolved side by side with our community,” the studio reports. “Update 2.0 incorporates years of feedback, numerous technical improvements, and new ideas to make the Zone even better, more mysterious, and more immersive from the very first moments.”

Update 2.0 improves the lighting and visuals of the Zone. Locations will look more natural and atmospheric thanks to more realistic shadows and reflections, both in open areas and inside buildings and dungeons. The landscapes and vegetation have also been redesigned to make the Zone feel even more organic and alive.

Thanks to the new A-Life system, life and random encounters in the Zone will become much more realistic. In particular, there are now more points of interest where skirmishes take place – from bonfires to bus stops and other locations where stalkers may encounter mutants. The behavior of creatures and NPCs has also been improved, making each encounter less predictable and more natural.

Update 2.0 introduces a difficulty setting called “My Rules,” which allows you to customize the game to suit your own playstyle. Players can adjust individual settings to create their desired gameplay experience – ranging from a comfortable survival mode to hardcore mode. For fans of the most challenging trials, the “Master” difficulty and the additional “Expedition” mode – which were introduced in previous updates – remain available.
Three new types of binoculars will help you explore the Zone, identify targets, and plan tactical actions. Each model is equipped with different technologies and has different functions. You can find them while exploring the Zone or purchase them from certain merchants. Update 2.0 also expands your arsenal with four new weapon models. Specifically, the Arev assault rifle, the GP3A and SKP sniper rifles, and the “Fora-230” submachine gun will be added. A unique variant of one of these weapons can be found within the Zone.

The update will also introduce new optical sights: a 3x scope for Western-style weapons and a red dot sight for Eastern-style weapons. In addition, it will now be possible to aim with offset even without an equipped PNB, giving stalkers more freedom in choosing their gear.

Fog will become more than just a weather phenomenon; it will be a full-fledged game mechanic – both stalkers and their enemies will experience reduced visibility and hearing while in it. The “Light Rain” weather mode has also received a graphical update that complements the Zone’s new visual design. A new “Statistics” page has been added to the KPC, allowing stalkers to track their activity in the Zone. Bloodsuckers and Flesh Eaters will look different depending on their habitat, making encounters with them more varied across different parts of the Zone.

In addition, the first major expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, titled Cost of Hope, will be released on August 20. It will explore the fierce and long-standing conflict between the iconic factions “Duty” and “Freedom.” Players can look forward to dozens of hours of exploration in all-new locations, including the Iron Forest, Chernobyl, and the Spatial Bubble. Upon release, the expansion will be available as part of the Ultimate Edition of the base game or as a standalone purchase for 29.99 USD/EUR (exact price varies by region).
To celebrate the upcoming release of the expansion, GSC has launched a special website where every player can vote for their favorite faction. After completing a short quiz, you can find out which side of the conflict you identify with most, cast your vote, and compete for exclusive limited-edition S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-themed prizes.
