The creators of the Harry Potter TV series currently in development at HBO have officially cast their “golden trio.” Dominic MacLoughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will take on the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout has been cast as Ron Weasley.

Casting for a project of this scale was a challenging process that has been ongoing since last fall. More than 30,000 actors auditioned for the lead roles. The actors chosen to play the new Harry, Ron, and Hermione will now begin preparation, with filming set to start this summer. The series is scheduled to premiere next year.

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockman, we are excited to announce that we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is impressive, and we can’t wait for the world to see their shared magic on screen, said the showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod. They also expressed gratitude to the tens of thousands of young actors who auditioned, saying it was a pleasure to discover so many young talents.

The original Harry Potter films brought Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint worldwide fame, and the new HBO series could do the same for the new “golden trio,” who currently have very few acting credits. Dominic MacLafflin appeared in the comedy Grow, which is set to premiere on Sky. Arabella Stanton has performed on the London West End stage. For Alastair Stout, the role of Ron Weasley will be his first acting role.

The cast for the teachers in the first season has also been confirmed. John Lithgow (known for playing Winston Churchill in The Crown) will portray Albus Dumbledore. Janet McTeer has been cast as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu will play Severus Snape, and Nick Frost will take on the role of Rubeus Hagrid. Additionally, Luke Tallon will play Professor Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse will appear as Argus Filch.

The show is expected to span seven seasons, with each film installment adapted into its own season, and production planned to continue over the next ten years. There have been rumors that this adaptation could become one of the most expensive TV series in history, both for the platform and television overall. According to the Daily Mail, each episode might cost around $100 million to produce. With seven seasons and approximately six to eight episodes per season, the total budget would be exceptionally high – potentially even surpassing Amazon Studios’ The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

However, a source close to the production told Metro that the reported figure is inaccurate. The production budget is expected to be closer to that of the final season of Game of Thrones, which was the most expensive and cost around $15 million per episode. A significant portion of the budget will be spent on creating the specially constructed magical world where the series takes place.
