The rollout of One UI 8.5 for Samsung smartphones has started very well. The company has been releasing updates at a fairly fast pace. However, it seems that this time around, the update has brought not only new features for Samsung smartphones, but also some strange new bugs. After the problems with video calls to Samsung from AT&T and the disappearance of video filters, another bug has appeared that annoys users.
According to numerous reports on Reddit, One UI 8.5 has somehow broken the dark mode on Samsung smartphones.

Users are sharing screenshots of various applications on social media that show a combination of black elements with dark gray and light gray interface elements. It seems that the problem is not limited to any specific device. The reports were posted by owners of Galaxy S25 models, but owners of other models also complain about the error in the comments below the posts.

The bug seems to only affect the display of Google apps and is reportedly related to a conflict between Google’s approach to app design and Samsung’s software. As explained by Reddit user MohamedEIngar, Samsung has changed its standard color palette, which is now causing problems for Google’s Material You design language. He also described a workaround through a modified version of Shizuku, which allows you to return the colors to the style used before One UI 8.5.

For those who don’t use tools like Shizuku, you can try changing the color palette in the Wallpaper settings – some users report that this has helped them temporarily fix the problem.

It is not yet known whether Samsung is working on a fix for this issue. A screenshot of a user’s correspondence with Samsung’s support service was published on the social network, in which a company representative said that the company “will change the color to a darker one in the next update.” But this is still not an official statement from the company. In addition, users can report the problem to the tech giant via the Members app. Now we can only hope that the company will fix the error soon.
