Instead of the expected Pixel 10, the buyer takes out a folding Motorola Razr from a box from the Google Store. This is exactly the situation that one of the customers of the company’s official store got into, and the events that unfolded after unpacking turned out to be much more unpleasant than the confusion with the product itself.
This story was borrowed from the Reddit platform in the r/GooglePixel community. The user placed an order for a Pixel 10 back on May 9, using the trade-in program for his old Pixel 7. The parcel arrived on May 14, but instead of the ordered smartphone, it contained a Motorola Razr 2025.
Getting the wrong device is only part of the problem. The much bigger problem is that the deadline for sending in the old Pixel 7 under the exchange program is inexorably approaching, and the customer is now unable to send in his previous phone.
Judging by the post, Google Support has consistently promised to respond within 24-72 hours, but has not offered any real solution to the problem. The customer noted that feedback appeared only after he sent numerous repeated emails and called the hotline again a few days later.
As a result, the disappointed customer has already asked the bank to cancel the transaction due to a payment dispute. This step clearly demonstrates the level of trust he has in the Google Store’s ability to resolve the incident. Other Reddit users commented on the issue with a variety of assumptions ranging from a simple warehouse error to theft during transportation, with some suggesting that the gadget was replaced by someone directly at the stage of delivery to the recipient’s door.
This is not the first time Google has experienced such logistical failures. A similar mess in the Google Store was recorded in 2019, when customers were secretly sent Pixel 4 smartphones locked to Xfinity Mobile instead of unlocked versions for which they paid money. It is becoming quite clear that direct distribution of goods to end consumers is a systematic flaw in the company, and not an isolated incident.
It is generally believed that buying directly from the manufacturer guarantees maximum security. However, when the brand that sells the equipment itself is unable to track what it is sending, such assurances lose all meaning.
The ironic humor of receiving a Motorola Razr instead of a Pixel 10 is hard to miss. Motorola’s foldable models are perhaps the main direct competitors for Google’s lineup in the US market, and Reddit is currently full of discussions where users are carefully comparing the Pixel and Razr. The accidental shipment of a competitor’s device is a story that is difficult to invent on purpose.
However, the key problem with this story is not the substitution itself, but the subsequent neglect. Template replies about the consideration of the application in 24-72 hours, which are repeated in a circle, can hardly be called a quality service – it is rather an attempt to buy time. For a tech giant that wants to position Pixel as a top-tier flagship product, the purchase process should match its value, which is definitely not the case now.
