Huawei has officially announced the date of its next major product launch. The company confirmed today that the “HarmonyOS 7 | Huawei Mate XT 2 and All-Scenario New Product Launch Event” will take place on September 7. As the event title suggests, the main new product will be the Mate XT 2 foldable smartphone with two hinges, which will be unveiled alongside HarmonyOS 7.

Rumors have been hinting for several months that the Mate XT 2 would be released in September. According to leaks, the device may feature the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, designed with a focus on more powerful on-device AI capabilities. The Mate X9 foldable smartphone is also rumored to feature the same chipset.
The upcoming tri-fold is also expected to feature a redesigned hinge mechanism that could make the crease on the screen less noticeable. Additionally, Huawei may switch to UFG glass for the display to improve its durability. The device is expected to be available in Mystic Black, Auspicious Red, Crimson Purple, and the traditional white color.

Huawei has not yet confirmed any of these specifications. At the same time, they would seem like a logical upgrade compared to the original Mate XT. The first-generation model featured a 10.2-inch display when fully unfolded, and its body was just 3.6 mm thick at its thinnest point. Despite its high price, the smartphone reportedly generated significant buzz, with over 400,000 units sold.
For the Mate XT 2, the manufacturer will need to maintain the slim body while also improving the design’s reliability and durability. This will be especially important for a device with such a large foldable display and a large number of moving parts. The software may prove to be just as important as the hardware. Huawei officially unveiled HarmonyOS 7 in June, and the September presentation should provide a better look at how the system will perform on a triple-folding smartphone.

A device like the Mate XT 2 places higher demands on the software than a typical foldable smartphone. Huawei must ensure support for multiple windows, proper scaling of apps across three different screen layouts, and seamless switching between folded and unfolded modes. Huawei has not yet released an official spec sheet, so most of the Mate XT 2’s hardware specifications remain unconfirmed. However, as you can see, we won’t have to wait much longer.
