Following the release of the dual-fold device and the updated wide version, Samsung’s lineup of flexible gadgets now consists of four models. According to a recent report, the company plans to add a fifth model to this lineup as early as next year.

According to a new report by ETnews, which cites informed sources within the industry, the company expects to unveil five distinct foldable smartphones in 2027. Two of them will feature the same wide format that is currently driving strong sales of the Galaxy Fold8.

A leak regarding Samsung’s 2027 lineup of foldable devices has surfaced online. The brand describes the upcoming series to its partners as follows: the Galaxy Fold9 in a wide format, another wide Fold model that has not yet received an official name, the Galaxy Fold9 Ultra in the familiar classic narrow and elongated body, the Galaxy Flip9, and the Galaxy TriFold2.

This strong emphasis on wide models is not an unfounded prediction. The clear logic behind this decision was already evident with the Galaxy Fold8, when Samsung abandoned the elongated 21:9 aspect ratio in favor of a lower 4:3 internal display, designed for comfortable video viewing and everyday scrolling through social media feeds. This move is already yielding excellent market results.

According to available data, the Fold8 accounted for 70% of all pre-orders across the entire Galaxy 8 lineup. In total, the series garnered 1.44 million pre-orders in South Korea, representing a 39% increase compared to last year’s results. Given this success, it makes perfect sense that Samsung is looking to create another large-screen device rather than limiting itself to a single experiment like the Fold8.

According to sources, the new wide Fold will differ in its display aspect ratio. Instead of replicating the nearly square 4:3 screen of the current Fold8, the next model is being designed with a focus on a more comfortable video-watching experience – in a format closer to widescreen. The project is in the early stages of development, so the panel size, hinge design, and final price have not yet been finalized.
