Xiaomi has officially unveiled its new Redmi K series smartphones in China. The Redmi K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max models feature flagship-level hardware, high-capacity silicon-carbon batteries, and high-refresh-rate displays, and they have some differences, despite their similar design and a number of key specifications.

The Pro Max version has been upgraded in areas such as the display, telephoto camera, ultra-wide-angle camera, and battery capacity. The Redmi K100 Pro is equipped with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series chipset, while the Pro Max features the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The V Series is a slightly scaled-back version of the chip with a different GPU configuration. It is a more cost-effective version of the flagship processor.

Both smartphones come with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.1 flash storage. However, the Redmi K100 Pro Max also comes in a configuration with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of flash storage.

The display is another significant difference. The Redmi K100 Pro is equipped with a 6.56-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2510×1156 and a refresh rate of 185 Hz. The Pro Max version has the same refresh rate, but its 6.9-inch screen has a resolution of 2608×1200.

The two flagship models won’t disappoint when it comes to cameras either. Both smartphones feature a 200-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, but the Pro Max has a more powerful camera system overall. The K100 Pro Max is equipped with a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, while the standard Pro version has a telephoto camera with 2.5x zoom. The Pro Max also features an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 50-megapixel sensor instead of the 8-megapixel sensor found in the K100 Pro. However, both devices are equipped with a Bose-tuned subwoofer.

Long battery life is undoubtedly one of the key features of the new Redmi smartphones. The Redmi K100 Pro features an 8,580 mAh silicon-carbon battery, while the K100 Pro Max goes even further – it’s equipped with a 9,070 mAh battery. For a flagship smartphone, this is an exceptionally large battery. Both devices support 100-watt fast wired charging, 50-watt wireless charging, and 27-watt reverse wired charging. They also feature water and dust resistance rated at IP66, IP68, and IP69.

The Redmi K100 Pro is available in white, black, red, and yellow-green, and its price starts at 3,699 yuan ($548) for the model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The K100 Pro Max version is available in blue, white, black, and red, and starts at 4,199 yuan ($622) for the same configuration. Currently, the new smartphones are on sale in China, but we can already foresee their future on the global market. The Redmi K90 Pro and K90 Pro Max models were launched internationally as the POCO F8 Pro and F8 Ultra, so the new generation may expand beyond China this year as the POCO F9 Pro and F9 Ultra.
