Samsung is demonstrating an unexpectedly high rate of distribution of the new version of its One UI 8.5 interface. The global release of the stable build was launched on May 11, when the update became available for devices of the flagship Galaxy S25 line. Since then, more than four dozen different gadgets have already received the update, including the S, Z, A, M, and Tab series.
It is noteworthy that the update has already reached even such affordable phones as the Galaxy A16, which is atypical for the Korean manufacturer, which usually delays the release of interim updates for the low-cost segment at the initial stages. The full list of compatible devices is presented below, so each user can check the prospects of getting the update for their device.
Analyzing the key facts, it is worth emphasizing that the global rollout of the stable One UI 8.5 began in mid-May, with the Galaxy S25, flexible Galaxy TriFold, and foldable Fold 7 models being the pioneers. This was followed by a rapid rollout to cheaper mid-range and entry-level phones. The Galaxy A16 and A17 smartphones were among the latest recipients of the firmware, which demonstrates an abnormal speed, as usually budget devices are provided with intermediate versions of the interface much later. Particularly noteworthy is the situation with the Galaxy S25 Edge, which received the new shell right at the time of its commercial debut along with the basic S25 family, despite the fact that this device was not involved in preliminary beta testing at all, which is fundamentally contrary to the standard practice of the South Korean giant.
Unlike previous minor releases, the current version of One UI 8.5 is officially approved for a significantly larger number of gadgets, and this register will continue to expand in the near future. Among the folding devices of the Galaxy line, TriFold, Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip 7 FE, the exclusive Fold SE, as well as last year’s Fold 6, Flip 6, Fold 5 and Flip 5 are being modernized. The Galaxy A series is represented by the A56, A55, A36, A35, A26, A17, and A16 smartphones. The Galaxy M lineup currently includes only the M56. The most striking feature of the current software upgrade campaign is the prompt delivery of One UI 8.5 for the initial models like Galaxy A16 and A17. Traditionally, the release of such intermediate software packages for low-cost devices has been delayed for many months. The fact that owners of budget devices get access to the firmware features just a few weeks after the release of the most expensive flagships indicates a change in the brand’s strategy. Obviously, Samsung now sees One UI 8.5 as a fundamental update for its entire digital system, rather than a privilege created exclusively for the premium segment of technology.
