New leaks suggest that Xiaomi may unveil its next flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 18 Ultra, earlier than expected. The information was released by a well-known Smart insider Pikachu. According to him, the company may keep the same launch strategy that it used for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra model. Instead of the traditional early-year release, as was the case with previous Ultra devices, the new product is likely to debut on the Chinese market later in the year, around December.
Major changes may affect the smartphone’s photographic capabilities. Xiaomi is reportedly testing a new configuration with four cameras for the Xiaomi 18 Ultra. This would mean a departure from the approach taken in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, where the company abandoned the classic four-module system and instead implemented a mechanical zoom system. If the leaked information is confirmed, the manufacturer may return to the four-lens scheme again, which will expand the set of focal lengths and increase the camera’s versatility.

Before switching to the triple system in Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the company had already used a four-camera configuration in Xiaomi 15 Ultra. It included a 50-megapixel main wide-angle module, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, a 200-megapixel periscopic telephoto sensor, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. If Xiaomi does not introduce a fundamentally new concept of the photosystem this year, a similar scheme may return in the Xiaomi 18 Ultra.
To understand the direction in which the new flagship may develop, it is worth paying attention to the characteristics of Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which debuted in China about 3 months ago in December. The smartphone is equipped with a 6.9-inch 2K LTPO OLED display with a dynamic refresh rate of 1 Hz to 120 Hz. Performance is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which works in conjunction with memory configurations of up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
The device has a 6000 mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 90W fast charging via cable and 50W wireless charging. The model also has IP68 certification, which provides protection against dust and water.

The main focus of the smartphone was on photography. Xiaomi 17 Ultra has a 50-megapixel main camera with a 1-inch sensor and f/1.67 aperture, as well as a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module with a 115° viewing angle. The telephoto system is based on a 200-megapixel sensor combined with a Leica APO lens that provides a continuous optical zoom in the range of 3.2x to 4.3x. As for Xiaomi 18 Ultra, leaks indicate that the camera may be expanded with an additional module. In addition, the processor is expected to be upgraded and the battery capacity is expected to increase.
