Xiaomi strives to make the process of owning an electric car as simple and comfortable as possible for its customers. The manufacturer recently released a demonstration video showing the operation of a home robotic arm. This device is capable of connecting and disconnecting the charging gun from the car in a fully autonomous mode, so drivers no longer have to bend down and handle cables themselves.

An important advantage of this robotic system is its compactness: thanks to its body width of only 152 mm, the manipulator can easily fit even in a very limited space in a home parking space. In addition, users can control the device remotely using a regular smartphone.

This automated manipulator has expanded Xiaomi’s line of equipment designed for charging vehicles at home. Currently, the company’s range already includes 7 kW and 11 kW stationary stations.

The 7 kW model has rather compact dimensions of 400 mm x 180 mm x 120 mm. It requires a 220 V single-phase power supply, and the included charging gun weighs only 640 g. The more powerful 11 kW version is manufactured in exactly the same physical dimensions, but it requires a three-phase 380 V power supply. Accordingly, the weight of its charging gun is slightly higher and equals 770 g.

For drivers in need of a mobile solution, the brand offers the Mijia Car Portable Charger and Discharge Gun, a universal portable device. It combines the functions of both charging and powering third-party devices. In the mode of energy transfer to the car, its power is 2.8 kW, and during the reverse current return, it is 3.5 kW. This device is powered by a regular 220 V household outlet.

Xiaomi’s desire to automate the process of powering electric vehicles did not arise yesterday. Back during the first presentation of the Xiaomi Pilot Technology autonomous driving system, the developers mentioned the robotic arm among the planned features, where it appeared next to the autopilot-assisted parking system. The current home innovation demonstrates that this vision has finally been realized in a real commercial product for everyday household use.

It is worth noting that Xiaomi Auto Technology has previously received official approval of its patent application for an automatic charging system from the China Intellectual Property Organization (CNIPO). At the same time, the company has patented another technological area – a wireless charging system based on the use of unmanned freight vehicles. According to the plan, such an autonomous charger should drive up to an electric car that needs energy and automatically establish a connection.

The manufacturer has not yet disclosed the cost and exact timing of the robotic manipulator’s availability. Given that Xiaomi usually adheres to a competitive pricing strategy for its electric vehicle accessories, it will be extremely interesting to see how this product moves from the demonstration prototype stage to the commercial market.
