YouTube and Google are simultaneously expanding the functionality of their TV services, focusing on viewing flexibility and AI integration. In fact, the companies presented several updates at once that change the approach to the consumption of content on big screens.

The changes primarily affected YouTube TV. The service has received a full-fledged customizable multi-window view, which now works not only with sports broadcasts but also with any channel. Users can create a screen of several streams simultaneously by combining content from different packages.

This means that you can simultaneously watch a match, news, or even a weather forecast in one window.

The function is implemented through the multiview builder tool, which has been tested for several years and has only now been fully launched. At the same time, certain limitations remain: the mode works exclusively with live content, and some devices, according to the company, will still not receive support.

At the same time, Google TV is receiving a major update that shifts the focus towards short videos and AI. In the near future, a personalized YouTube Shorts feed will appear on the home screen, which actually transfers the mobile format of vertical videos to TVs. In this way, Google continues the trend of short content going beyond smartphones.

In addition, the platform is actively expanding AI tools. Users will have access to the Nano Banana image generator, as well as video generation via Veo, which allows creating videos based on text queries. For example, the system can generate videos with an arbitrary scenario, including fantasy stories. The integration of Google Gemini is also deepening: the assistant appears in the Google Photos app, where AI search and editing are now available, including through the Photos Remix feature.

Most of the new features are already being rolled out, although the integration of Shorts is expected to be launched later this summer. At the same time, a significant number of AI features will be available only on Gemini devices. In general, the update demonstrates a clear development vector: TV platforms are gradually turning into universal content hubs where classic TV, short videos, and generative AI coexist in one interface.
