Volkswagen has officially presented the ID. Polo and started taking orders for the ID. Polo Life with a 155 kW engine and 52 kWh battery. The price starts at $40,000 (€33,795). A base version of the ID. Polo starting at $29,000 (€24,995), as well as variants with other engines and batteries. In the press release, VW positions the model as “excellent value for money,” although the final assessment will be made by buyers.

The model is available with four different propulsion systems and two types of batteries.

  • The 85 kW (116 hp) and 99 kW (135 hp) versions are equipped with a 37 kWh LFP battery with support for fast DC charging with a capacity of up to 90 kW
  • The 155 kW (211 hp) variant will offer a 52 kWh NMC battery that supports charging up to 105 kW
  • The same battery will be used in the ID. Polo GTI, which will develop 166 kW (226 hp). This version is expected next year.

According to Volkswagen, the version with a smaller battery will provide a range of up to 329 km, and the version with a larger battery will provide a range of up to 454 km on a WLTP cycle. The maximum speed of all versions is 160 km/h. The automaker said that ID. Polo is based on the “the current evolutionary stage of the modular electric drive platform” MEB+ and has front-wheel drive. Thanks to this architecture, the car offers 441 liters of luggage space, despite its compact dimensions: length 4053 mm, width 1816 mm and height 1530 mm. The wheelbase is 2600 mm.

The interior features a 10-inch Digital Cockpit instrument panel in front of the driver and a 13-inch multimedia system display, and they are present even in the basic Trend trim. The Life trim will add adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, Park Distance Control and Front Cross Traffic Assist, as well as an interior rearview mirror with anti-reflective coating and power exterior mirrors. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless charging for smartphones, are available in the cabin starting with this trim level.

ID. Polo

The top-of-the-line Style version will get matrix LED headlights, 3D rear lights, backlit VW logos, “sport comfort seats” (it’s not yet clear what this means), and “high-quality materials”. There will also be a heated steering wheel and seats and dual-zone climate control.

Optional extras include a 425-watt Harman/Kardon audio system with ten speakers and a subwoofer, a large panoramic glass roof, and pneumatic massage for the front seats. The vehicle-to-load function will be standard for all versions and will support power up to 3.6 kW.

Polo, we are making electric mobility accessible to many more people: with clear and timeless design, intuitive operation, strong quality and technologies from higher segments,” Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer said. The electric Polo is also the first to feature the new Volkswagen Pure Positive design language, or, as chief designer Andreas Mindt calls it, the “secret sauce.”
