Lenovo Yoga 710-15ISK laptop-transformer review

I do not often test laptops. But despite that, I often work with them. First of all, for me, the laptop is a compact device for the Internet and work. And the ideal candidate for this I have always considered MacBook Air in the 13-inch configurations. It is compact, lightweight and easy to use. You can not say about most of the models on Windows.

However, with the release of the Lenovo Yoga line, my views have changed. Yoga Laptops are suitable for my tasks even more than Apple products. It contributes to this touchscreen display with rotating mechanism. Today we look at the new representative of line – Lenovo Yoga 710-15ISK.

Characteristics of Lenovo Yoga 710-15ISK

Despite the design, convenience and other chips, hardware – the most important thing in the laptop, and with this we will begin. There are 5 configurations Lenovo Yoga 710-15ISK on the market. We were not on the test got the weakest device, but not a top option. Confident middling.

So, Lenovo offer us to buy a notebook in this configuration:

  • 15.6-inch touchscreen display with Full HD-resolution
  • CPU – dual-core Intel Core i7-6500U (2,5 – 3,1 HHz)
  • Intel HD Graphics 520 GPU
  • 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of RAM

The characteristics are good, but looking at the price, the lack of discrete graphics is really upset.

From this it becomes clear that the Lenovo Yoga 710-15ISK is not a gaming device. Of course, Core i7-6500U – good processor, but the U prefix indicates low power consumption, and therefore also the power cut down.

It is worth noting that in the “arsenal” Lenovo Yoga 710-15ISK line is exactly the same model, only with graphics NVidia GeForce 940m, but that’s another story. In addition, you will have to pay more for a configuration with dedicated graphics.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, someone will notice that run benchmarks on this hardware does not make sense. I agree with that, but I could not carry out the tests. So I share with you the results. In the SSD test (CrystalDiskMark) all is pretty predictable: 530 MB/s for reading and 402 MB/s for writing. In PCMARK 8 test laptop scored 2697 points, which is more powerful than the 49% of the tested devices. It is quite a good result.

Wireless modules are also worth noting. The notebook is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 and support for Wi-Fi ac standard. The antennas are built into the rotary hinges, which should increase the range of the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It is also worth noting the presence of a web-camera with a CMOS matrix. The camera itself is 1 megapixel and can record video in 720p.

The first thing that catches your eye when you take into the hands of Yoga – dimensions. My laptop with 14-inch display on all dimensions larger than this 15.6-inch Yoga. Firstly, the width and weight. In the “thickest” site Yoga 710-15ISK is 18 millimeters.

Do not hurry to open the laptop and look at his material. Lenovo Yoga 710-15ISK is made entirely of aluminum. This is the aluminum immediately shows premium class of the device.

Also, designers and worked on such an important detail as the logo on the package. Inscription «Lenovo» coated with a dark color and is in a corner of the device, it is intentionally unremarkable. But the inscription «YOGA» you can not miss, because it is embossed and has reefing.

It is worth noting that despite the coolness of aluminum, in the dark version, it is very easy to get dirty. However, he also easy to clean, you have to do every day.

Then we go through the edges and see what ports Lenovo equipped the new Yoga. On the left side are the port for charging, card reader, combined audio input and Reset key.

On the right side are two ports USB 3.0, mini HDMI, and power button. Speakers and air intake grilles are located below.

Now open the “treasured box” and stand still for a few seconds. Display like a magnet attract the eye. At first glance, it takes about 95% of the space on the lid. Edges are petite, side are about 5.5 millimeters, and the top – 10 mm. It is wider than the side edges due to a web-camera presence. This compactness allowed to put a 15.6-inch display in the housing 14-inch notebook. However, about the display later. Below we see a full keyboard and a huge touchpad. Kant on the perimeter of device is polished and that makes strict design of Yoga 710-15 more elegant and interesting.

Do not forget about the main feature of all Yoga line of notebooks from Lenovo – swivel display. Here, as with other representatives of the line, there are 4 types of use: laptop, tablet, console and presentation.

If the “laptop” mode is clear, then the rest is about to tell. If you want to turn your laptop into a “tablet”, it is very easy to do. Just open it and fold in the opposite direction. Thus, the keyboard is automatically turned off, and Windows offers a switch interface in the “tiles” mode.

It is possible that the regime “tablet” you will not use, but the modes of “console” and “presentation” you will like. With their help it is very convenient to watch movies on a laptop. At whatever surface you want to put your laptop to view, you can always choose one of two modes. It is worth noting that the “console” mode, you put yoga on the keyboard, at the same time, as well as in tablet mode, it switches off.

I have repeatedly pointed out the display size, but remember, here it is a 15.6-inch FullHD-resolution, and the matrix is made by IPS technology. What do you know about it? Colour rendition, contrast, viewing angles – everything is exactly as it should be in the premium laptop. None of this does not cause problems. There is enough brightness levels for comfortable operation either in a dark room at night or under the scorching sun outside.

Also worth mentioning that the display is touch-sensitive. Many are skeptical about this. However, I am a supporter of touch screens in your laptop. Yes, Windows has a lot of small items, which is not very convenient to work in conjunction with the touchscreen. However, there are many moments in which easier to poke a finger in the screen, than to take the mouse or to carry your finger on the touchpad. Yes, you’ll have to frequently wipe the laptop screen, but it is a trifle.

Keyboard and touchpad

With Lenovo Yoga 710-15 I spent about a month, and 90% of the time used it as a typewriter and for browsing. After this month, I can say that the keyboard is just the bomb. It is a full-sized, island type. All the keys are pressed clearly, but it is quiet. At night, you will not break anyone’s dream. The only drawback – the location of the right Shift. Instead, all the time I pressed the down arrow, as it is short and shifted to the right from the usual places.

Lenovo Yoga 710-15

The touchpad is also excellent. Previously, I could not understand how to use the touchpad rather than a mouse, but now everything is much better, especially in the premium models. The touchpad is large and has two control buttons. The speed is high, too. All the gestures and swipes are adequately understood by system.

Battery life

Working time is an important factor for the laptop. Yoga 710-15 is also not of the latter. The notebook is equipped with 4-cell battery with 53 Wh. This is a good indicator. The laptop will be able to work up to 8 hours as the “typewriter” in the Word. With an active browsing and listening to music, you can easily count on 5-6 hours. And to watch movies at full brightness and volume is possible for 3-4 hours. That’s enough to watch 1-2 cool movie.

Lenovo Yoga 710-15 is a great laptop for each day, as well as a good accessory. He will cope with all of your daily tasks, and at a meeting with business partners it will show that you have taste and you are good at devices. The only drawback is the price, I think its overpriced. Still, fashionable design, style – this costs a lot.

Other models could be displayed,  if this is not in the directory for your region.
