GTA VI is almost ready for a major gameplay reveal, which will take place today on Netflix. And ahead of this event, the studio has revealed some details about several game systems that will be familiar to fans of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
In an interview with Dazed, the development team revealed that how players “shape” the lives of the two main characters will affect their appearance. For example, overeating will lead to weight gain, while regular workouts will gradually build their muscles.

“We look back at our previous games with a critical eye and see where we want to evolve based on what we didn’t do as well as we would have liked to, either because we didn’t have the time, resources or technological capabilities, or in some cases things we just didn’t do as well or consider as fully as we could have,” says Rob Nelson, head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North. “A lot of what we do is very iterative – we adjust a lot of things by feel based on what is working and what isn’t.”

What’s more, even factors such as an unhealthy lifestyle, lack of sleep, or prolonged alcohol consumption can influence a character’s behavior and appearance. All of these dynamic systems sound like a combination of the mechanics used in San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption 2.

The ability to switch between characters from Grand Theft Auto V will also return, though it seems that maintaining good relations between the two protagonists will be a key challenge. The company has also confirmed that the game will feature a social media feed that players can scroll through if real life gets too boring. You can find out how these and other systems will work during the Netflix presentation, or wait another six hours and watch the same video on YouTube.

“We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow,” added Rockstar. “It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve.”
Meanwhile, hackers have become active and have begun posting gameplay footage and spoilers for story missions online. “This is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time,” the studio said on a social media post. “We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has – from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay.”
As a reminder, GTA VI will be released on November 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
