Quake is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, MachineGames and id Software made a new announcement during the QuakeCon livestream. Unfortunately for fans, it wasn’t the unveiling of a new game in the Quake series, but the news is still good – players have received a new, completely free batch of classic content in the form of the β€œDawn of the Machine” episode, which is available in the Quake remaster.

The new episode features 19 all-new missions that make up a full-fledged story campaign filled with both familiar and new enemies. This isn’t MachineGames’ first time creating content for Quake – the studio also worked on the remaster and has released add-ons since its launch.

“As the battle-hardened Ranger, players survive a labyrinthine dimension where time folds back onto itself, creating a unique looping structure where each visit in the present reshapes the future,” said the development teams today about this release. “Collect runes to unlock previously sealed paths brimming with new routes, encounters and secrets, plus persistent health and ammunition upgrades throughout add a new layer of progression to Quake’s classic gameplay.”

However, the update added not only a campaign with high replayability but also new variants of classic weapons, three new achievements, a cheat code menu for single-player mode, a gallery of behind-the-scenes material and unused content, as well as a large number of bug fixes.

Separately, the developers also shared material about the expansion’s development process, detailing the collaboration between MachineGames and id Software, the level design process, and much more.
