A new demo for the sci-fi-themed space “roguelike” N.E.O.N. HORIZON, developed by the Ukrainian studio NeonGameStudio, has been released on Steam. The project’s official page states that the demo includes the shooter’s first act. The developer adds that this amounts to approximately 3 to 5 hours of gameplay, assuming you don’t try to find everything.

“A new demo version is now available, featuring the entire first act of the game,” reads the announcement on the Steam page. “Lots of mechanics, a new ship, and the Shipyard. Everything has been tested and is working – as well as our modest capabilities allow.”

The developer is looking forward to user feedback to learn how to improve the game, what to add, and what to fix.

“Over a century ago, humanity launched Project N.E.O.N. – Navigational Expedition for Observable Nothingness. At the heart of the project was the autonomous research station NH-017, controlled by artificial intelligence. It spent seventy-one years in interstellar space before reaching Horizon. What it discovered there forever changed the mission’s objective,” reads the game’s description. “Now, cut off from Earth, NH-017 remotely controls its warships, sending them through hostile space in an attempt to reach Horizon and deliver a warning to humanity.”

In this dynamic sci-fi roguelike, players must survive 100 increasingly dangerous waves, upgrade their ships with enhancements, relics, and powerful synergies, choose their own path, and ultimately discover what NH-017 found beyond Horizon. Your choice of ship will influence your combat style and strategy. And in between battles, you can chart your own course, balancing risk and reward through events, shops, and branching paths. As you progress toward your goal, new ships, technologies, and elements of permanent progression will become available to you.
