Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns the 2K label, has officially confirmed the suspension of the development of Borderlands 4 for Nintendo Switch 2. This became known during the presentation of the company’s financial results for the third quarter of FY2026.

The Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4 was originally scheduled to release on October 3, 2025, about a few weeks after the game’s release on other platforms, which was scheduled for September 12. However, on September 23, the release for Nintendo’s new console was postponed indefinitely, and now it is actually on hold.

“We have made a difficult decision to suspend the development of this SKU,” said Take-Two representatives. – “Our focus remains on providing players with quality content upon release and continuously improving the game to optimize it. We continue to work closely with our friends at Nintendo. We are preparing for the release of PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 and are very excited about the possibility of releasing more of our games on this platform in the future.”

When the Switch 2 version of the game was first announced, developer Gearbox Software explained the delay as a result of the need for “additional development and refinement time” and that it wanted to “better align this release with the addition of cross-saves.” In Take-Two’s Q2 financial report, which was released on November 6, 2025, the Switch 2 port was still listed as “TBA,” but the absence of any mention in the latest report and the direct confirmation of the suspension make it clear that if the Switch 2 version does appear, it will definitely not be in the near future.

The current post-release support roadmap for Borderlands 4 includes paid and free story DLC, as well as raid bosses, but does not include any new ports of the game to other platforms.

At the same time, Take-Two confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI is still scheduled for release on November 19. The upcoming blockbuster from Rockstar Games was originally supposed to be released in the fall of 2025, later postponed to May 2026, and in November 2025 – for the second and, as it was announced at the time, the last time – to November 2026.

Although the possibility of another postponement still exists, Take-Two expressed confidence in Rockstar’s plans in its financial report, noting that an active marketing campaign for GTA VI will start this summer. The series remains extremely profitable for the company, so the desire to make the launch as precise as possible seems quite logical. For clarity, Take-Two also reminded that Grand Theft Auto V, which was released in 2013, has already sold 225 million copies.
