Warhammer fans in Ukraine have received notable news from Varvar Publishing. Today, representatives of the publisher announced on social media that they have acquired the rights to publish Warhammer from Games Workshop, the rights holder and creator of the franchise. The first Ukrainian-language editions are expected to appear in bookstores and online retailers next year.
During the summer, the Ukrainian book market was unsettled by the sudden news that Molfar Publishing would no longer be working on titles from the Warhammer universe. According to representatives of Molfar, Games Workshop unexpectedly terminated the partnership without providing an explanation. Both the publisher and fans reacted with disappointment and frustration, and social media saw calls to contact the rights holder in search of clarification or to express dissatisfaction.
However, Warhammer fans have now been given a new point of reference in the form of Varvar Publishing. In a Facebook post, the publisher stated that it had taken note of the many comments and requests regarding the possibility of acquiring the Warhammer license. According to the statement, the idea was discussed internally for some time, with careful consideration of its advantages and drawbacks. The decisive factor was a direct proposal from Games Workshop to explore a collaboration. After discussing the terms, Varvar Publishing agreed, confirming that Ukrainian-language editions of Warhammer will move forward.
Representatives of Varvar Publishing also addressed potential questions from fans. The publisher plans to release new books and possibly continue existing series. They confirmed that the quality and format of the publications will remain consistent, ensuring that new editions match the previous ones. In a Telegram comment, fans asked whether Varvar would coordinate with Molfar regarding previously used names, locations, or terminology. The publisher responded that “the same team will be working on the books.”
“Games Workshop assured us that, since 2022, they have not been cooperating with the aggressor country,” the post emphasized, adding that “the first releases can be expected as early as 2026.”
