Lite Jam has initiated a Kickstarter campaign for the Litejam RGB Smart Guitar, a new instrument integrating an LED fretboard for guided learning and performance. The device is being introduced as an advanced smart guitar designed to assist musicians in practice, performance, and composition.

This Smart Guitar Actually IS a Guitar

The Litejam RGB features a solid wood body and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard embedded with 150 individually addressable RGB LEDs. This visual guidance system is intended to provide players with real-time feedback on finger placement for chords, scales, and song progressions.

The instrument utilizes a free companion application, the Lite Jam App (available on iOS and Android), which connects via Bluetooth. The app facilitates four primary operational modes:

  • Chord Mode: Displays finger-specific colors (e.g., Red for 1st finger, Green for 2nd) to indicate correct hand positions for various chord types, custom presets, and sequences.
  • Scale Mode: Illuminates root notes (Red) and viable notes (Blue) for 22 different scale types, aiming to simplify the visualization of scale patterns across the fretboard.
  • Perform Mode: Offers programmable lighting patterns for live use, including a dynamic effect designed to react to the player’s performance or accompanying music.
  • Tuner Mode: Leverages the fretboard lights to provide chromatic tuning functionality.

Further expanding its utility, Litejam has introduced GlowTab, a web platform compatible with the guitar. GlowTab is designed to convert standard text tabs and Guitar Pro files into real-time LED guidance on the Litejam fretboard, allowing for integrated visual practice of existing sheet music.

From a hardware perspective, the guitar features a professional build including analog HSH electric guitar pickups. The embedded system is powered by a rechargeable 4,000 mAh battery, offering approximately five hours of operation from a one-hour charge via a front-mounted USB-C port.

Lite Jam notes that the product is intended for a range of users, including beginners, songwriters, content creators, and music educators, citing its potential to enhance the learning process and add a visual component to live performances and content creation. The instrument received positive feedback from industry figures at its initial NAMM Show launch, including Paul Davids and representatives from Chibson USA and 60 Cycle Hum.

The Litejam RGB Smart Guitar is available for backing on Kickstarter with a pre-launch price range of $329 to $349. The post-launch MSRP is projected to be $479 and higher. The company plans for mass production in Q4 2025, with global shipping scheduled to commence shortly thereafter.
