Anthropic and SpaceXAI have entered into an agreement that will allow the Claude development company to use xAI’s Colossus 1 data center. As a result, Anthropic is doubling the limits for paid Claude Code users and slightly easing other restrictions.
This year, SpaceX acquired xAI, combining Elon Musk’s AI business with the company’s space and satellite operations. Last year, xAI built the Colossus 1 data center, which includes 220000 NVIDIA GPUs, including dense clusters of H100, H200, and new generation GB200 accelerators. And now Anthropic has signed an agreement with SpaceXAI to use all 300 MW of Colossus 1’s computing power.

“For those who are interested, I spent a lot of time with the Anthropic team last week to understand what they are doing to make Claude a benefit to humanity, and I was impressed,” Elon Musk said on Twitter. – “Everyone I met was very competent and cared about doing the right thing.

The rapid growth of Claude Code’s popularity has made it harder for Anthropic to meet user demand, as computing resources are not unlimited. To solve this problem, Anthropic has already signed a 5 GW agreement with Amazon, which includes almost 1 GW of new capacity by the end of 2026. Another agreement was signed with Google and Broadcom, also for 5 GW, but it will only take effect next year. In addition, an agreement was signed with Microsoft and NVIDIA to use Azure capacities worth $30 billion.

Anthropic noted that new additional computing resources from SpaceXAI will be used to improve the availability of the service for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers. The company has also demonstrated interest in partnering with SpaceX on a project to create several gigawatts of orbital AI computing capacity. This area is at an early stage of development, so it is currently unknown how this initiative will develop in the coming years.

“The computing power required to train and operate next-generation systems exceeds the capabilities of ground-based energy sources, land resources, and cooling systems in the required timeframe,” SpaceXAI says. – SpaceX is the only organization that has the necessary launch frequency, payload cost-effectiveness, and satellite constellation experience to make orbital computing a near-term engineering program, not just a research concept. If the engineering challenges can be overcome, space computing will provide virtually unlimited sustainable energy supply with less impact on the Earth.”

Based on feedback from developers, Anthropic also announced that it is doubling the five-hour Claude Code limits for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans with user licenses. The company is also removing the restriction of lowering the limits during peak hours for Pro and Max accounts. In addition, Anthropic significantly increases API limits for Claude Opus models.
