Google presented various updates to its products and services at the I/O 2026 conference, and YouTube also had its moment of glory. The tech giant is integrating the same chatbot that previously appeared in Google Maps and Google Photos into the platform.
The new feature is called Ask YouTube, and it allows you to use more complex search queries. It will analyze the query you enter and generate a selection of relevant videos from the platform’s entire catalog. The search will also cover Shorts and full-length videos.

Representatives of the service noted that Ask YouTube can be used, for example, to find tips on how to teach a child to roller skate, or to find reviews of cozy games from content creators that are suitable for relaxing in the evening. Users will also be able to ask clarifying questions to get better search results.

The feature is currently available to Premium users aged 18 and older who live in the United States. To activate it, you need to go to the YouTube Premium Experiments page. However, the company representatives stated that Ask YouTube will soon be available to all users, although they did not provide an approximate timeframe.

YouTube will also receive support for Gemini Omni, Google’s latest AI model that, according to the company, “can create anything from any query.” Gemini Omni will allow creating Shorts remixes and will also be used in the YouTube Create app. Users will be able to add their own cues and images to create a new version of a compatible Short while preserving the original context. For example, you can change the atmosphere of a video to the style of another decade or add yourself to a video with your favorite content creator.

“The Remixing with Omni feature opens up new opportunities for users to create and be inspired by each other,” YouTube says. “This model better understands user intentions, creating more cohesive and meaningful stories, and automatically makes complex video and audio adjustments. The company also noted that in order to prevent fakes, all Shorts created through Omni will receive digital watermarks and relevant metadata. They will also include a link to the original video. At the same time, content creators will be able to prohibit the creation of visual remixes of their Shorts at any time.

Gemini Omni support in Shorts will be available for free to all users and will soon be available in AI Playground. YouTube also announced that the facial similarity detection feature now applies to all content creators over the age of 18.
Separately, Google shared new indicators of its services. The company stated that 13 of its products have an audience of over 1 billion users. Among these products, in addition to the obvious YouTube, the company named Google Search, Gmail, Google Drive, Chrome, Maps, Play, Calendar, Photos, Android, Google Discover and Lens, as well as Messages.
