Minecraft was created in 2009 by Markus Persson, who decided to create a video game unlike anything else - both accessible and easy to learn without the need for tutorials. Addictive, but endless and plotless.
A beta version was launched in November 2010. On November 18, 2011, the game was officially "completed" shortly after the release of the mobile versions for iOS and Android. On January 12, 2011, Minecraft celebrated one million copies sold. Minecraft was sold to Microsoft for $2.5 billion in 2014. There are ports on Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. In 2015, Story Mode was released. In 2016, Mojang created the Minecraft Education Edition for schools.
