The iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed is traditionally associated with classic gasoline-powered cars, but in 2026, Chinese automaker BYD intends to change that perception. The company is planning its largest exhibition booth in the history of its participation in the event, as it wants to showcase its growing lineup of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. And this is no joke – BYD Group will bring a total of eight new models from three different brands to the UK.

One of the festival’s main events will be the official launch of the Denza brand in the British market. BYD’s premium sub-brand will use Goodwood for the world premiere of two new electric vehicles – the Coupe and the Racing. Both models embody the company’s new design concept, which was first unveiled on the Spider model at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year. Meanwhile, the Z9GT station wagon will be the first Denza model to go on sale in the UK.

The Denza Coupe is equipped with a powerful three-motor electric powertrain inherited from the Spider model, enabling it to reach speeds of up to 349 km/h. Despite its sporty character, the model features a practical “2+2” interior and a spacious trunk. For buyers who prefer a more aggressive design, a Racing version will be available with an advanced carbon-fiber aerodynamic package.

Denza is also expanding its presence in the large premium vehicle segment with the D9 DM-i and BAO 5 SUV models. The D9 DM-i is a large, seven-seat minivan offering the highest level of comfort. All seven seats are equipped with heating and ventilation functions, and the second-row seats can recline up to 152° and feature a built-in massage function. The model uses a hybrid powertrain with two motors producing 353 k.s., provides up to 209 km of all-electric range according to the WLTP cycle, and offers a 430-liter trunk even when fully loaded with passengers. The BAO 5 SUV will be unveiled in Europe for the first time. It combines three electric motors with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and is designed for off-road driving.

BYD’s main brand is focusing on more practical models for the mass market. The new Dolphin G DM-i will debut in the UK following its presentation in Berlin. The car belongs to the compact city hatchback segment but stands out for its unique plug-in hybrid powertrain. According to BYD, this system provides a total range of up to 1,040 km.

There’s also good news for pickup truck enthusiasts, as BYD will unveil its Shark pickup truck in Europe for the first time. It is a midsize model with a hybrid off-road powertrain producing 435 k.s. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, which is an exceptionally fast time for a vehicle in this class. It can travel up to 88 km on electric power alone, after which the gasoline engine kicks in. The Shark can tow loads weighing up to 2,500 kg.

For enthusiasts seeking maximum performance, the Yangwang brand – a premium division of BYD – has prepared a special exhibit. The booth will feature the U9 Xtreme – a car that currently holds the title of the world’s fastest production car. The model previously demonstrated its capabilities by completing a lap of the Nürburgring in 6 minutes, 59.157 seconds. The car also set an official record among production models by reaching a top speed of 496 km/h. The U9 Xtreme’s participation in the festival confirms that it will be available to European buyers.

Yangwang U8L

Yangwang will also bring two more models to Goodwood. The first will be the large luxury SUV U8L, and the second will be the executive sedan U7. Buyers will be offered both a fully electric version of the U7 and a plug-in hybrid variant. The model is equipped with four independent electric motors, an all-wheel-steering chassis, and the advanced DiSus-Z active suspension system.

“This is more than just a product launch. It’s a statement of intent,” says BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li. “By unveiling eight new models from three different brands, BYD Group is demonstrating how innovation, high technical performance, premium design, and environmental sustainability can be combined in one of the world’s most extensive lineups of vehicles.”
