The well-known online game developer and publisher Wargaming has introduced a new project called World of Tanks: HEAT. This standalone, free-to-play tactical shooter incorporates tank combat and is set in an alternate reality following the end of World War II. Players can take part in large-scale 10v10 battles, controlling not just vehicles but unique characters operating experimental tanks.

World of Tanks: HEAT

World of Tanks: HEAT takes the familiar battles from the series and presents them in a more dynamic and visually striking format. Vehicles in the game have distinct attributes and abilities that can be developed and tailored to individual play styles. Tanks offer a wide range of customization options, from modern weapon systems and armor modules to visual upgrades and special abilities that can significantly influence the course of a battle. Players assume the role of Agents – elite pilots of these combat machines – each with unique skills.

World of Tanks: HEAT

World of Tanks: HEAT represents our bold vision for the franchise, offering a completely new tank experience with a fresh setting, new gameplay mechanics, faster pacing, and advanced technology,” said Wargaming CEO Viktor Kislyi. “Building on the DNA of the globally recognized World of Tanks, the game allows players to enjoy tank battles in ways we could previously only imagine.”

“Today’s announcement marks an important milestone for our team, reflecting the hard work and creativity we’ve invested in the project,” added World of Tanks: HEAT Product Director Artem Yantsevich. “We look forward to close collaboration with players to shape the future of HEAT and are excited to showcase the game for the first time at gamescom.”

The project is built on Wargaming’s new proprietary engine, delivering detailed graphics, a strong sense of immersion, and dynamic cinematic effects. World of Tanks: HEAT will launch simultaneously on PC (via Wargaming Game Center and Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam Deck. This will be the company’s first full cross-platform release with cross-progression support. The game will also feature an official Ukrainian localization.

Among the key features, the following are worth highlighting:

World of Tanks: HEAT

  • The gameplay focuses on hero-driven tank combat, with each character fulfilling a specific role on the battlefield and equipped with a set of enhanced abilities. Agents add tactical depth through both combat and support skills.
  • Tank customization is a central feature. All tanks are inspired by historical designs, creatively reimagined as post-war machines. Players can build personalized vehicles by combining historical concepts with modern technology. Each tank can be customized with contemporary weapon systems, armor modules, visual modifications, and abilities that can alter the course of battle.
  • Variety of game modes: Classic shooter modes such as Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Conquest have been adapted and transformed to create a new, engaging tank combat experience.
  • Free-to-play model: The game emphasizes long-term player engagement, where success depends on skill. Monetization focuses on cosmetic items, battle passes, and boosters designed to save time rather than provide direct gameplay advantages.
