HMD is bringing back the Asha sub-brand – the company has unveiled the new budget Android smartphone, the HMD Asha 305, aimed at users who only need basic features without the extra cost of more powerful models. The smartphone is available in black and light green, is 10.2 mm thick, and weighs just 145 g.
On the front, the HMD Asha 305 features a 5-inch LCD display with a resolution of 854×480 and a 2-megapixel camera. The rear panel houses the same 2-megapixel main camera with an LED flash. The smartphone is powered by a Unisoc T137 processor and has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card up to 128 GB.

The new model features a removable 2,500 mAh battery that supports 5W charging and, according to the manufacturer, is rated for up to 32 hours of use. In addition, the HMD Asha 305 supports dual 4G SIM cards, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and features a USB Type-C port.
The smartphone runs on Pulse OS, which is based on Android. One notable difference is that it does not come with Google Play or standard Google apps preinstalled. Instead, HMD offers its own app store with a selection of lightweight apps. On its website, the brand mentions only TikTok Lite among the supported apps, though unofficial reports also cite Facebook Lite, Instagram Lite, WhatsApp, and YouTube. The idea is to keep the system simple and focus it on core communication and entertainment features.
HMD has not yet announced an official global price, although the smartphone has already appeared in some Asian markets. For example, in the Philippines, it sells for approximately 3,990 Philippine pesos (about $65). The device is positioned as a simplified smartphone that bridges the gap between HMD’s basic feature phones and more powerful Android devices.

It lacks the high-resolution cameras or large display typically found in a standard Android smartphone, but this also means it is less likely to distract the user. The trade-off is that the device relies somewhat more on the app ecosystem – particularly social media – compared to HMD phones designed for a digital detox. At the same time, it could make for a decent secondary device that’s neither too basic nor too boring.
The removable battery, compact size, and the Asha brand may make the smartphone more appealing to those who once used the original Nokia Asha 305.
