The crisis in the RAM market is not over, but the largest manufacturers are already preparing for the next stage. While consumers are struggling to find affordable DDR5, DDR4, and now even DDR3 modules, companies are already working on the new DDR6 standard. Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have reportedly begun the early stages of DDR6 memory development. This means the start of a new stage in the development of high-speed computer hardware.

Even though the official JEDEC (Joint Electronical Device Engineering Council) standards have not yet been approved, companies do not intend to wait. Instead, they are already moving forward with research and planning. The manufacturers have also asked their partners to prepare the necessary designs and materials to be ready when DDR6 approaches mass production.

The current focus is on creating test models. They will allow engineers to check how stable and productive the design is. Starting work at an early stage helps to avoid delays in the future and maintain an advantage over competitors. If you look at the current state of the RAM market, this approach makes perfect sense.

The DDR6 standard is expected to deliver a significant performance boost. Initial estimates suggest that the new memory may be almost twice as fast as the current DDR5. This means higher data transfer speeds and better support for resource-intensive tasks such as AI, gaming, and processing large amounts of information. Companies actively cooperate with component suppliers – substrate manufacturers and other partners involved in the creation of the final product. Early coordination of all stages should ensure a smooth launch in the future.

While there is still time before DDR6 is available to the consumer market, the current preparations are already significant. It demonstrates that the industry is actively preparing for the next major memory upgrade. In the meantime, end users continue to look for affordable RAM modules, while manufacturers are increasingly focused on the steadily growing demand from AI companies.
