BMW has unveiled the M Concept Neue Klasse, which gives a first glimpse of the upcoming i3 M electric car with four electric motors. The world premiere of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse took place during the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The concept demonstrates the brand’s new design direction for future high-performance electric vehicles.
“The new BMW M design language forms the expressive spearhead of the Neue Klasse,” BMW M boss Oliver Heilmer said, adding that the project is “truly special to me because it carries the BMW M character into a new era.”

This new era will begin in 2027 with the introduction of the electric BMW M3. The M concept has a significantly more aggressive look and sportier proportions than the standard i3 thanks to a redesigned front end and additional M elements.

At the front, the signature Neue Klasse headlights and grille are combined into a single element, while the dramatic bumper improves aerodynamic performance. The design and the new three-dimensional Track Lights will be a feature of future BMW M electric models.

The rear of the concept also uses a similar design and Track Lights, complemented by a large ducktail spoiler. According to the company, the interior is “geared towards the driving experience in a next-generation all-electric BMW M”. Inside, there are four new sports seats and materials made from natural fibers.
For the first time in the M series, the automaker used black nubuck leather on the steering wheel, door panels and safety frame.

The company also added exclusive M hexagonal lighting on the floating instrument cluster, red accents on the M transmission selector and steering wheel paddles, and in the digital display. Earlier this year, it confirmed that the upcoming M electric vehicle will be equipped with four electric motors and BMW M Dynamic Performance Control.

Using sixth-generation technology, the company has developed the new M eDrive system specifically for its future high-performance electric vehicles. The power plant includes four electric motors, one for each wheel. Each motor is controlled by special software, which is a modification of the Neue Klasse control units called Heart of Joy, as well as the M Dynamic Performance Control system.
Although the company has not yet disclosed technical details, it claims that these electric powertrains are “the most powerful drives BMW M has ever used”. The 800 V architecture and battery capacity of more than 100 kWh, according to the company, will provide the conditions for a long range, although specific figures have not yet been disclosed.
BMW will launch its first all-electric M Series car in 2027. The model is expected to be called the i3 M. With the official premiere just around the corner, more details should be available soon.
