Ubisoft has revealed some interesting features of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced for PlayStation. The game will offer three graphics modes on the PS5 and PS5 Pro. According to a new post on the PlayStation Blog, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been completely rebuilt from the ground up and designed with the capabilities of modern PlayStation consoles in mind.

The game will support frame rates of up to 60 frames per second, HDR, Dolby Atmos, and haptic feedback from the DualSense controller.

On the PS5 and PS5 Pro, users will have access to three graphics modes: Performance, Fidelity, and Balanced. These modes will run at 60, 30, and 40 frames per second, respectively, with a resolution upscaled to 2160p.

The PS5 Pro version will also utilize the advanced PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling technology, which improves image quality and frame reconstruction. This will help reduce the visual difference between the Performance and Fidelity modes. In addition, it will provide expanded support for ray tracing, including Ray-Traced Global Illumination and Ray-Traced Specular Reflections.

“This allows for more realistic lighting and reflection quality while maintaining high performance in Performance, Fidelity, and Balanced modes,” Ubisoft noted. The Fidelity and Balanced modes on PS5 will also support advanced ray tracing, while Performance mode will use the standard version.

The developers have also improved the strand-based hair rendering technology for the PS5 Pro. It will be available for the main character, Edward Kenway, in all graphics modes. In Fidelity mode, this technology will also be applied to crowd characters near the player, and in cutscenes, realistic hair rendering will be used for all characters regardless of the selected mode.

“Instead of relying solely on traditional ‘hair maps,’ the engine can simulate and render individual strands, providing more natural movement and reactions to the wind,” say the developers. “All of this allows us to achieve very realistic hair rendering for our characters.”

Thanks to the updated Anvil engine, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced also features the Atmos system, which simulates weather conditions in real time. Instead of using separate weather effects, the system continuously calculates parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and water vapor density.

“These systems evolve over time and influence one another, creating more cohesive and dynamic weather,” Ubisoft representatives stated, adding that this simulation also affects gameplay and interaction with the environment. The water rendering system has also been upgraded thanks to new tessellation technology, volumetric foam generation, and dynamic bubbles. This allows the ocean to react more naturally to wind strength, weather conditions, and the movement of ships.
