Over the past few months, there have been rumors of a new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to fill the gap until the next installment, and these rumors have finally been confirmed. The studio has officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past DLC. It will bring Geralt back from Rivia and offer players a completely new adventure in a fantasy world. CD Projekt RED announced that the development is being carried out jointly with the independent studio Fool’s Theory, whose portfolio already includes Thaumaturge and Seven: The Days Long Gone.

So far, the studio has only released images, so there are no gameplay materials or plot details. However, judging by the title, the expansion may bring back something from Geralt’s past. Fans also speculate that the new content may somehow combine the events of The Witcher 3 and the upcoming The Witcher 4, laying the foundation for the story of the new protagonist. The studio explained that the announcement was supposed to take place tomorrow during the broadcast, but the leak forced the team to reveal the surprise earlier than planned.

Along with the release of the new content, the system requirements of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also change. The new minimum requirements for PC will be as follows:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB
  • Video memory: 6GB
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • Storage device: 70 GB SSD
  • Operating system: 64-bit Windows 11.

Windows 11 will be the required operating system for both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 after Microsoft ends support for Windows 10. Due to the termination of security updates, official platform support, and further support for video card drivers, the studio will no longer test its games on Windows 10.

Support for HDDs will also be discontinued, as SSDs provide faster loading and better overall performance. The game will work exclusively through DirectX 12, which will allow developers to implement technical improvements more efficiently.

Only Windows 11-compatible processors and graphics cards with active driver support for Windows 11 games will be supported. However, the studio will allow PC players to return to an older version of the game if their hardware does not meet the new requirements. But in this case, they will have to give up the new DLC.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past DLC will be released in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
