Starfield has reached an important moment – Bethesda Game Studios has released the biggest update for its sci-fi role-playing game, and with it the second Terran Armada expansion pack and the PlayStation 5 version of the game.

The Terran Armada expansion adds a full-fledged new storyline. Players get new characters, locations to explore, enemies to destroy, and new mechanics, including Incursions. This is a new type of recurring content available in space, which includes various scenarios – from small skirmishes to large-scale infiltrations of Armada ships with various objectives. It is also possible to customize the frequency of occurrence of such events during the passage.

The DLC introduces a new satellite, Delta, a reprogrammed Terran Armada robot that, according to the developers, is “definitely not evil” but “definitely not good” either.

Bethesda explains that a new threat to Settled Systems appears within the plot. Representatives of Terran Armada consider themselves the “true” descendants of the Earth. This group includes members of the United Colonies and Freestar Collective that disappeared during the Colony War. They are a highly developed military force, largely composed of robotic soldiers. The Terran Armada expansion pack is already available for $9.99, and Premium Edition owners receive it at no extra charge.

But the biggest part of the update is the Free Lanes content, which is already available to all players. The developers call it the biggest update for Starfield, and one of its most interesting features is Cruise Mode. This mode allows players to independently move between planets within star systems on their own ships without using fast travel with loading screens. At the same time, new points of interest have appeared in space, opening up opportunities for unexpected events during travel.

“Everything you can do while in orbit or docked, you can now do in Cruise Mode,” says the studio. “Decorate your ship, chat with your companions and crew, hit up the workbenches. It’s all there for you. And don’t worry about overshooting your destination; autopilot will automatically slow you down when you arrive.”

The update also adds a new X-Tech resource for upgrading equipment and ships, the ability to redefine effects, a new Tier 4 equipment level, shared containers for outposts, pets for bases, Starborn ability enhancements, and the ability to launch New Game+ with full equipment retention.

Separately, the PlayStation 5 version of Starfield is now available for $49.99 for the basic edition. Purchasing the Premium Edition for $69.99 gives access to the Shattered Space and Terran Armada story add-ons, as well as additional cosmetic bonuses. PlayStation 5 Pro has separate graphics and performance modes, as well as full support for the DualSense controller.
