Škoda will officially unveil its new electric vehicle, the Škoda Peaq, on June 23, 2026, and just ahead of the premiere, the model has completed an extensive testing program. As part of the testing, the manufacturer sent several prototypes to the U.S. to put them through their paces in extreme desert conditions, even though this vehicle will not be sold on the North American market. The large crossover will become the new flagship among Škoda’s electric models.

During testing, engineers covered over 1.5 million km in camouflaged prototypes. The testing spanned three continents: in addition to North America, it included Africa and Europe. Such tests allow automakers to identify hidden design flaws before mass production begins. That’s why Škoda covered such a huge distance to test how the main structural components withstand prolonged stress and wear.

Part of the testing program took place in extreme cold. The company conducted tests 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, where temperatures regularly dropped to -40°C. Since low temperatures can reduce the range of modern electric vehicles, engineers paid special attention to energy efficiency. They also evaluated the effectiveness of the cabin heating system and tested how quickly the ventilation system defrosted the windows. Additionally, the vehicle’s traction and stability on slippery surfaces were monitored.

After completing the winter tests, the development team moved to the other extreme and headed to the Arizona desert. There, the prototypes were driven under intense sunlight. This provided an opportunity to assess the durability of the paint finish and the strength of the plastic body components. Engineers also tested the electric vehicles’ thermal management systems, the reliability of the braking system and mechanical cooling, and the efficiency of the air conditioning system.

In addition to temperature tests, the vehicle underwent testing on roads with challenging surfaces. Drivers covered thousands of kilometers on dirt and gravel roads to verify the cabin’s airtightness and dust protection. It was proven that the metal and plastic body components can withstand constant impact from stones without damage or chips.

The Škoda Peaq electric crossover is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform. This architecture has made it possible to create a spacious interior that can accommodate up to seven passengers. With three rows of seats, the Peaq will compete with other practical family electric cars once it hits the market.

Three powertrain options are planned for the model. The base version will be called the Peaq 60. It is equipped with a 63 kWh battery and a single 150 kW (201 k.s.) electric motor on the rear axle. This version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and offers a range of over 460 km on a single charge.

For buyers who need a longer range, the Peaq 90 version will be available. It features a 91 kWh battery and a more powerful 210 kW (282 k.s.) rear electric motor. As a result, acceleration to 100 km/h is reduced to 7.1 seconds, and the range exceeds 600 km.

At the top of the lineup is the Peaq 90x. The flagship model uses the same 91 kWh battery but is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The combined power output is 220 kW (295 k.s.). This configuration allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. Despite the added weight of the second electric motor and higher performance, the range exceeds 600 km.

There are only a few days left until the official premiere of the Škoda Peaq. One of the key questions remains the price of the new model.
